Marketers, please read this

Dear Marketers, is not where you want to be. If you came here to get your product mentioned on this blog, you might as well leave right now. I will never promote your book, movie, or whatever it is you’re selling.

For years (since 2002!) I’ve been trying to say this politely. And for all that time, marketers have still been writing to me. Each one thinks she’s a special snowflake – the single exception, the one I do want to hear from. *sigh*

There are no exceptions. I don’t care how special your product is — I don’t want to hear about it.

I think there’s probably a special place in hell for social media consultants who show up pretending to be my friend, but really just want me to blog about or promote some nonsense. I don’t know how these people sleep at night. I hope you’re not one of them.

If you send me marketing materials or any drivel about what you’re promoting, no good will come of it. Trust me: no good at all.
